When what seemed like hours to Megan had finally passed her mom drove into Kelly's driveway and let her out. "Have a good time sweetheart!" she called then drove off. A very excited Megan knocked on the door and Kelly answered. Megan's gaze shifted to the unusually immodest shirt her friend was wearing. Strange... she had never seen Kelly dress like that before. She pushed aside these thoughts as Kelly excitedly led her to the the room she had fixed up for a great slumber party.
"Hey Kelly!" Megan started, "wait til i tell you what happened at church last week while you were gone!"
"Save it Meg," Kelly said as she looked through her drawer, "i have something to show you." Kelly pulled out a music CD and stuck it in the payer. Megan grimaced at the less than moral music and stared blankly at her friend. What was going on? And what could she do about it? Gathering up courage Megan started, "hey Kels..."
Lets Look At the Bible
what do you think you would do in this situation?
A. ignore it. you're sure your friend is just going through a rough spot and will be back to normal in no time.
B. explain to her from the bible that what she is doing may not be the best, ask her if there is something you can do to help or if she wants to pray with you.
C. tell her that you cant be her friend if she is going to act like this. you know she's wrong and you wont listen to her excuses.
Well before i say what she did let's go to the Bible and see what God has to say about this.
One of my favorite verses to recite when i need to deal with this is Proverbs 27:5
"Better is open rebuke then hidden love."
What does this verse mean? Should you not love people? Of course you should! But when you see a friend doing something wrong a gentle reminder is good for them. it may hurt them a bit at first but it will help in the long run. After all, aren't God's feelings more important than ours?
Search these other verses for more on this subject.
Proverbs 27:6 "Faithful are the wounds of a friend, profuse are the kisses of an enemy."
Psalm 12:26 "one who is righteous is a guide to his neighbor."
Luke 6:31 "And as you wish others to do unto you, do also to them."
Think
I challenge you to go out of your way this week and be a guide to your friends. it's just another step in sharing the gospel.
